Accessible Documents
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines WCAG are not only applicable to websites, but to all types of digital content. Not only websites, but also documents such as PDFs or Word files can and must be accessible.
Accessible PDFs
PDFs are practical and often make paperwork easier for us: Simply fill out a PDF form on the computer, sign it digitally, and send it in. But this is only possible if the document is accessible. As with accessible websites, the same applies to accessible PDFs: the easiest and cheapest way is to know and take into account the requirements right from the start. I’m happy to help you with this and make your PDF accessible.
For a PDF to be accessible, it must contain so-called tags. Tags are invisible structural information which, for example, identify headings, paragraphs, lists, and tables. These can be compared to the HTML tags used on websites. There are also other requirements to make the document accessible to all.
- The document language must be properly marked.
- The document contains additional information such as title and author.
- Tables contain table headers and header lines.
- Images and graphics have alternative texts.
- The reading order corresponds to the logical structure of the document.

Accessible Office Templates
PDFs optimized for accessibility can be exported from Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. For this to be successful, there are a few things to keep in mind when creating these source documents: For example, content in Word should be correctly formatted using style sheets.
I can create Office templates for you and in a training session I will show you how to use these templates correctly.
