A few days ago I came across a one of a kind recruiting video on LinkedIn. The makers promise seven minutes that are worth it. I watched the whole video, checked out the job listing, and felt addressed.
The only question was: I live in the United States, they would like someone who can regularly be in their office in Zurich. Should distance and time difference really become an obstacle?
Nevertheless, I sent Peter Hogenkamp a message via LinkedIn. And I used the waiting time at the hairdresser’s to learn more about Scope.
And that’s really what I love about social media and online presence. You can “sniff” the other person on all channels. Of course, this happens to both sides. As a Swiss woman who has been active in the media and digital industry for a long time, I knew Peter and Scope even before this recruiting video. But I couldn’t explain in detail what Scope does until a few days ago.
I myself had rather disappeared from the screens for some time (see also the blog post about my Social Media Restart). However, the website, blog, and other channels offered enough opportunities for the Scope team to get an idea of my experiences and me.
The interest was mutual – and then it went very fast. The discussions took place of course online, via LinkedIn and Zoom calls. After less than 48 hours since the first contact, we already agreed on everything. And so the year 2019 ends with an entry at Scope.
I love my work as a self-employed copywriter and consultant for accessible content. And I will continue to do so. I have great customers and project partners and I am grateful for their trust and willingness to work with me remotely.
But I look forward to working in a team again. Because I consider myself a social butterfly. Interacting with others, exchanging with like-minded people, working together on projects. I need that. The home office far away from friends and family can sometimes feel lonely.
The best opportunities are often unexpected. And if it fits, it fits.
